Living Meditation, Living Truth

A personal note by Sandra Phocas:

Although I have many spiritual and healing 'tools' from my years of training, experiences, and practice--and I have found many doorways to that which is beyond my individual self--I find that when I am struggling the most, it is to meditation that I turn. When I sit on the cushion and take a breath, turning my attention inward, I open a particular kind of vital doorway--one to my truth in that moment. It is not about past or future or the content of my various life stories. It is not about what to do or how to solve anything. It is purely about being truly with myself in the largest way I can allow, while still embodied in human form. For while it is easy for me to travel into other realms, I am here on a human journey and always must return to integrating my experiences in this physical form and person.

Meditation grounds and centers me, while also bringing awareness of all of the inner landscape--emotions, sensations, desires, aversions. As I sit in the midst of it all and breathe, I create more space in which to hold and allow my experience. And then I allow even more space, open to what is beyond me, and let myself connect with all that is. That simple yet powerful process repeatedly brings me back to myself in a much larger context--one that is not small, alone, and limited, but immense, open, and connected. What an amazing place from which to engage in the world!
